Medallion carpets,closely woven on all cotton foundations with that characteristic Tabriz pile wool are a specialty of this industrious Persian city.Split arabesques,palmettes,thin vines,cloudbands and rosettes swirl around a scalloped elliptical buff medallion containing another version of the forked arabesque design.The field pattern fits around the medallion instead of being cut off as it passes beneath.Light blue corners are quarters of large 16 point medallions.The general design is classical in origin,but the Tabriz designer has adapted it to a modern format.The orange border displays various rosettes and diagonal palmettes.Tabriz carpets have been more popular in Europe than in America,especially in Germany 1920's.These carpets are always formal and precise.As a result Tabriz carpets have always been paired with traditional furnishings.But a modern,informal decor is a perfect contrast with a precise Tabriz rug,where colours are generally slightly subdued.The carpet is in very good condition.The pile has always been low,clipped short to better display the complex pattern.This carpet can still be used for few more decades.Further adding to the appeal is the size.The 8x11 size is not easily encountered among these Tabriz carpets.This rug has been cleaned professionally and is free of any stains or odors.For further information please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
