Antique Chinese Peking Oriental Rug , Northeast China , 1st Quarter 20th Century , 3 x 3 :-

This charming blue and white square Peking rug displays design features descending from 18th century Ningsxia ( north central China ):the paeony and arabesque border, the paeony corners, and the round floriate medallion. Most of the Peking rugs of the late 19th to 1st quarter 20th centuries are room size, usually between 8'x10' to 9'x12'.This rug is in top condition and very rare in format. The ends are complete and the sides are original. The handspun pile is lush and thick. The range of blue dyes totally derives from indigo:there are at least five distinct blue tones. The pile wool comes from Mongolia. Turn of the century Peking designs took from every Chinese source available and combined elements into new,yet traditional, rugs of originality and character. The open field is a feature of some of the best Peking carpets, large and small,of the period.
