Vintage bullet still bank, nickel silver from Milwaukee, Park Savings Bank
This is so sleek. Made to encourage saving! It has a slot for coins and the bottom screws off. There is a little shield applied to the front with the banks name. An advertising coin bank.
It stands 4” tall and is 1 & 1/8” in diameter and is in excellent condition. This bank was written up in Bankers Magazine, Vol. 96 (1918) “the saving habit has been made attractive and popular by thrift campaigns and the distribution of little safes that make it a pleasure to deposit a coin instead of spend it. Especially attractive and timely is the so called Bullet Bank manufactured by the Stronghart Co. of Chicago.
Made of nickel silver, it holds $10 in quarters, perfect to save up for the newly offered United States Savings Certificates. All that dates this bank to 1918, the bankers article was that year and that is when the first savings certificates were issued to help with World War I costs.
MFG by Stronghart CO Chicago, Pat. Applied for. Stronghart was the forerunner of Banthrico and very collectible.
