ANTIQUE, Dutch Watercolor, Willem Steelink II (1856 - 1928)

This very fine work by Dutch artist Willem Steelink II, a flawlessly well executed landscape in watercolor with fine detail and marvelous color, displays a idolized pastoral scene of the countryside and it's life therein. A plush pasture beside a stream ...daylight is settling into sunsets wonderful red glow....night approaches. The Shepard and his dog have begun herding the flock home. The level of detail is exceptional, the Shepard's cloak with it's many folds of fabric, the weathered expressive face of the Shepard, the faces and solid furry bodies of the sheep all captured in great clarity . Steelinks rare understanding and love for nature and animals through observation is magically expressed through his genre. Free of any restoration, the painting on paper, is untouched, sealed behind glass and set in a magnificent frame is fine example of the work of Willem Steelink II, a truly fine selection.
