RARE Antique c.1700s French Louis XVI Candle Lamp, Silk Shade Bouillotte Lamp

An exceptionally rare 1700s boudoir bouillotte lamp, the style that has a flat adjustable shade in silk and 2 candles. This is far rarer than the more standard 2-3 branch bouillotte lamps with tole or metal shades which are, even so, also rare. I found this one in an estate out of Rancho Santa Fe, and it is marvelous. I'm thrilled to offer it. Still has the old original silk, I think, or certainly antique embroidered silk in good condition in that sliding shade. As you know, the shade is lowered as the candle burns lower, and is to protect against a direct glare of light. For desk or boudoir, bedroom, it's still one of the most charming of all methods of mood lighting, don't you agree?
Very good to excellent for age and type. The shade mechanism works smoothly and the shade slides easily, anchors with the turn of the clamp. No breaks, no loss, and the old bronze is superb. You need only add candles. I'll be listing two more fabulous 18th century bouillotte lamps in weeks ahead - ones I've been hanging onto. These are my favorite lamps ever. And this is only the 2nd one in this form I've ever found. The style you would have seen in Versailles in the time of Marie-Antoinette, of course.
