Elegant simplicity along with authentic antique texture, a proud silhouette, and gorgeous wood make this big bookcase or display cabinet remarkable. It is unusually clean and crisp in design, with no mullions, no visible hardware, little carving. The doors are striking big sheets of wavy glass, and all doors upper and lower operate with keys. The clarity of line, and minimal ornamentation give it a modern feel. Dating from the early 19th century, the case is entirely made of mahogany with beautiful flame doors. The inside adjustable shelving is currently painted in a milky green, over pine.
A large piece, over 8 feet tall and and over 9 feet wide, it is made in two big wide cabinet pieces, as well as the cornice and a footing base. The whole thing was designed to fit flush against a wall so it is shaped at back bottom to allow for baseboard molding. Remarkable piece, dating from 1820-1850.
Excellent antique condition. The finish is old, with a shine on the shallow counter surface where it was polished over the years, and a more matte finish elsewhere. The interior paint is in good shape, but could be repainted if a different color is desired. We have working keys for it, although they vary in shape and date from different times. One small piece of trim missing on the right side at the back, but otherwise intact. This piece will make a room, outfit a library, dramatize a dining room, showcase a collection, bring scale and texture to a large family room wall in a new home, or bridge styles in polished eclectic space. It has great possibility. We can provide more photographs, and detailed dimensions if you are interested. Dimensions: Width 113" x 22" depth x 100" height.
